October 17, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cisco Systems, Inc. (cisco.com), announced yesterday Telia
r

Stofa (stofa.dk) the Danish cable subsidiary of Telia AB, has selected Cisco Universal Broadband Routers as a part of a continuous build out of their national network composed of end to end Cisco cable equipment. The Cisco uBR7114 and uBR10012 routers are enabling intelligent network services and rapid deployment of Internet applications over Telia Stofa’s existing Cisco Powered IP-over-cable network for both business and residential customers throughout Denmark.
r

r

Cisco was chosen because of its technology leadership in the cable/IP space
r

and commitment to cable standards (DOCSIS) that enable interoperable
r

cable/ISP capabilities. This was important for Telia Stofa since its future
r

plans include scaling the present residential service to a “telecommuter
r

service” that will be aimed at tele-workers who require greater bandwidth
r

and secure Internet access. The use the of the Cisco uBR7100 and uBR10012
r

Series Universal Broadband routers enables Telia Stofa to provide advanced
r

broadband Internet access services. Deployment of these new systems is also
r

paving the way for Telia Stofa to move their customers’ up the value chain
r

providing voice, streaming video, pay-per-view, and a broad variety of
r

interactive applications. Both residential customers and business users can
r

benefit from high-speed Internet services including IP/Virtual Private
r

Network and voice-over-IP services.
r

r

“Cisco is synonymous with the Internet and we share a similar vision for IP
r

and multiple integrated services, including voice-over-IP over cable,” said
r

Mr. Ole Simonsen, CEO, Telia Stofa. “We chose the Cisco uBR10000 and uBR7100
r

series because no other products on the market today offer comparable
r

performance in terms of Quality of Service voice over IP over cable
r

services.”
r

r

Todd Abbott, Group vice president, Cisco Systems EMEA said: “Because the
r

Telia Stofa subscriber base is growing rapidly, it is important they can
r

deploy quickly and manage these services in an effective way. Any new
r

solution for Telia Stofa had to be scalable and standards-based, and have a
r

migration path that would maximise Telia Stofa’s ability to take advantage
r

of their existing infrastructure. With its existing installed base of
r

uBR7200 DOCSIS CMTS routers, Telia Stofa will be able to reduce the costs of
r

deployment and increase customer satisfaction and revenue opportunities.”
r

r

The Cisco uBR7114 offers a solution for small cable deployments enabling
r

Telia Stofa to service smaller rural communities, multi-dwelling units
r

(MDU), or multi-tenant unit (MTU) business applications effectively. The
r

Cisco uBR10012 is a carrier-class high-capacity aggregation platform, which
r

places a new level of intelligence and scalability at the edge of the
r

network and helps Telia Stofa maximise its revenues by delivering more
r

feature-rich services to their customers.
r

r

Telia Stofa is the second largest cable operator in Denmark with the largest
r

number of deployed broadband customers in Denmark. Telia Stofa broadband
r

Internet access service is recognised in Denmark as a quality service with
r

superb access capacity and customer support. The company boasts an
r

impressive customer retention rate of approximately 100% in an industry well
r

known for customer churn. The Cisco uBR10012 Universal Broadband Router
r

provides a cost-effective, scalable, and industry-proven cable modem
r

termination system, optimised for aggregating traffic at the edge of the
r

cable network.
