(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation and data center operator Telehouse (www.telehouse.com) announced on Wednesday that it will launch next week its new $120 million (£80 million) Telehouse West data center in Docklands, London, UK.
The announcement comes just a day after Telehouse announced it has expanded its dedicated data center space at Teraco Data Environments’ new neutral data center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The new data center will provide 62,336 square feet of secure data center services and will bring the total amount of power at its Docklands site to 40MVA.
This will give organizations access to 6KW per rack to ensure all customer power requirements are met both now and in the future.
The data center will provide 424 racks per floor over nine floors, five of which will feature a “localized data center environment”.
Telehouse West has been designed to offer customers four redundant HV power systems on separate grids for maximum redundancy and nearly 100 percent uptime.
In addition, the facility will offer 2(N+1) redundant UPS floor by floor, standby generators with a minimum of 24 hours autonomy at full capacity, 8 x 2.5MVA 11kV Generators, redundant A & B power feeds to customer equipment, 6 x 2.7MW chillers for air conditioning and cooling, 2 redundant standby generators.
Telehouse West will provide 62,336 square feet of secure data center services for UK businesses and will act as a communications hub to over 400 carriers, ASPs and ISPs.
The company is also offering managed services for customers of the Telehouse West facility including systems observer, tape back-up, router support services and technical support.
“Telehouse West has been constructed to ease the UK’s capacity and power needs,” says Bob Harris, technical services director of Telehouse. “We currently already receive an industry high 94 percent customer satisfaction rating; something we hope to improve further when the new facility opens in April 2010. It will also be the most advanced, feature-rich data center the UK has ever seen. The flagship data center will provide organizations with the energy and capacity they so desperately need.”
Additionally, Telehouse West will transform recovered waste heat into energy for the local Docklands community, helping organizations meet their green agenda, and mitigate their carbon footprint ready for the introduction of the government’s CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme in April 2010.
When operational, Telehouse West will house the London Internet Exchange and will offer customers access to the UK’s widest selection of carriers, operators, ISPs and Internet Exchanges.
