Telehouse to Build $162m Facility

March 14, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Telehouse Europe (telehouse.net) announced on Friday it will invest $162 million in a facility that will nearly double the size of its London, UK Docklands data center facility. The new facility, called ‘Telehouse South’, will stand eight-stories and span 39,370 square feet. It will be located across from its two existing data centers in Docklands.

The data center operator will start construction on the facility later this year and open to the public around 2010. Telehouse says it will market the hosting facility to London-based financial institutions, online and media businesses, global enterprises and organizations involved in the London 2012 Olympics.

Project managers for Telehouse South say they plan to deploy the latest communications, monitoring, and resilient power and cooling technologies, while adopting the latest environmental standards and best practices. The company’s London Docklands facility has become the largest Internet communications hub in Europe, with over 700 customers including telecoms carriers, ISPs, media companies and corporate customers.

“Business requirements for outsourced and highly secure, resilient data centers, coupled with the massive growth in business and consumer internet services, has led to demand significantly outstripping supply in LondonĀ - one of the world’s key financial and media centres,” says Tokuji Mitsui, managing director of Telehouse Europe.

Telehouse says it will invest in another 49,212 square feet of new facilities near Paris, France and open its first facility in Singapore, with a 4,921 square foot building. The company also recently opened a data center in Beijing, China and operates facilities in New York, Los Angeles, California and Hong Kong.

On a long-term scale, Telehouse says it plans to expand across nine countries in South East Asia, Eastern Europe and emerging markets, and by 2010, aims to be running data center facilities occupying a total of 328,080 square feet.

Last week, Telehouse America announced it will co-host with Windward IT Solutions and virtualization software provider VMware a Breakfast on Broadway seminar on March 20 at the Broadway Center in Manhattan, New York.
