(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider Telehouse Europe (www.telehouse.net) announced on Tuesday it has nearly completed its $80 million Telehouse West data center in London, UK.
The announcement follows last week’s launch of its IP Transit Services, which offers reasonably priced Ethernet connectivity between the US and Europe.
The company hosted a “topping out” ceremony Tuesday, where staff gathered on the top floor of the nine-storey building to watch Tokuji Mitsui, managing director of Telehouse Europe, tighten the last of 57,334 bolts used in the building’s construction.
Scheduled for completed in March 2010, the 62,320-square-foot data center will provide UK businesses with a connection hub to over 60 available carriers and over 300 ISPs, letting customers choose the service that best suits their needs.
The data center will also help companies reduce their carbon footprint by exporting waste heat to help heat nearby homes and businesses in London’s Docklands.
The move will save up to 1,110 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year and provide up to nine megawatts of power for the local neighbourhood.
“Yesterday represented a significant achievement for all the staff involved in the building of Telehouse West,” says Mitsui. “Construction of the facility has progressed extremely fast since the beginning of the year, which is testament to months of hard work from both Telehouse Europe employees and our contractors, MACE. When complete, the data center will be Telehouse Europe’s flagship European facility.”
