(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider Telehouse Europe (www.telehouse.net) announced on Wednesday it is establishing its carrier neutral data centers in South Africa.
This expansion into South Africa marks the first entry by a major Japanese telco into the African continent.
The company currently has over 20 data centers around the world, including facilities in the UK, France, US and Asia. The company recently completed its $80 million Telehouse West data center in London.
Telehouse Europe selected Teraco Data Environments (www.teraco.co.za) as the home for its facilities.
Under the agreement, Telehouse will open dedicated data center space within Teraco Cape Town and Johannesburg under the Telehouse brand and will be named Telehouse Johannesburg and Telehouse Cape Town respectively.
Teraco will operate, support and maintain the facilities to Telehouse’s global operating standards, which focuses on power, cooling, security and customer-focused operations.
“Telehouse has an impressive heritage in the data centre industry, a very strong international carrier customer base and a reputation for high levels of reliability and security,” says Lex van Wyk, managing director of Teraco. “We have built a unique facility in South Africa and we look forward, through Telehouse’s global relationships, to further extending the choice of carriers, networks and service providers available to customers within our facilities.”
Teraco’s Cape Town site opened in February and it will open the Johannesburg site in early 2010.
Both sites offer high levels of power, cooling, back-up and security and room for further expansion, says Teraco.
