Telehouse Celebrates Opening of Docklands Data Center

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK IT infrastructure services provider Telehouse (www.telehouse.com) announced on Friday it celebrated the opening of its new Telehouse West data center in Docklands, London, UK.

The $120 million data center officially opened to customers last month, with 62,336 square feet of secure data center services and 40MVA of power.

The launch event was hosted by BBC breakfast’s Bill Turnbull and included speeches from Telehouse Europe managed director Tokuji Mitsui, KIDDI vice president Yuzo Ishikawa, Minister of the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom Hiroshi Oka and Egg co-founder Mike Harris.

A traditional Japanese sake ceremony followed the presenters, where attendees talked and drank sake.

The facility’s customers Ioka, Daiwa Capital Markets, Hitachi, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Verizon and T-Systems were all on hand, as were senior representatives from data center operations around the world, including the executive team from Teraco Data Environments.

The launch of Telehouse West continues the company’s expansion into emerging markets such as South Africa and Vietnam.

As a result, Telehouse’s global data center footprint has now reached 390,420 square feet.

Telehouse says the new facility will meet the demands of UK businesses for high-capacity data centers, as well as offering connectivity to over 400 ISPs, carriers, operators and Internet Exchanges.

Spread over nine floors, five with a “localized data center environment”, the custom-built 62,336 square foot facility brings the total power at the company’s London Docklands site to 40MVA.

“Today, 20 years after the launch of our first data center Telehouse North which was the first of its kind in Europe, we find ourselves again at the forefront of the industry,” says Dionne Aiken, marketing manager of Telehouse. “In conjunction with parent company KDDI, our customers have access to a global network infrastructure and a range of end-to-end services including system integration, network services and ICT consultancy.”
