Telehouse America Extends NYIIX to New NYC Data Center

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – IT infrastructure services provider Telehouse America (www.telehouse.ca) announced on Monday that its New York International Internet Excahnge completed its expansion into its new data center in New York.

Telehouse America acquired the 60,000 square foot data center at the end of January. The facility, Telehouse New York Chelsea, is located at 85 10th Avenue in New York City.

With this expansion, Telehouse says its new facility will offer customers five peering connections in New York City, including two carrier neutral data centers, located at 25 Broadway in Manhattan, and 7 Teleport Drive on Staten Island, along with 60 Hudson St and 111 8th Ave.

“Expanding NYIIX into our new carrier neutral data center facility in Chelsea is indicative of Telehouse’s steadfast commitment to our customers. We now provide them with yet another cost-effective avenue of connecting to other independent networks for the exchange of data and routing information without having to use crowded public networks,” Akio Sugeno, vice president of Internet engineering, operations and business development said in a statement. “This strategic combination of three state-of-the-art data centers – all within the New York market, greatly increases our customers’ connectivity options for accessing all parts of the globe.”

According to the press release, as of February 2011 NYIIX has more than 135 active members, and operates with a 10GB Ethernet interface between the carrier hotels.

Telehouse America also owns and operates the smaller Los Angeles International Internet Exchange.

NYIIX was established in 1996 and is one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points on the east coast, according to Telehouse.
