(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Japanese telecommunications provider NTT Communications announced on Tuesday that it has completed the construction of its Singapore Serangoon Data Center. Designed to meet the needs of financial services industry and enterprises, the 54,000 square foot data center is in close proximity of the stock exchanges to provide low latency networks to the financial industry for electronic trading.

The data center will be fully operational by the end of February 2012 and NTT Com will hold a grand opening ceremony in Singapore in April.

This news comes a week after NTT Communications acquired a 74 percent stack of Indian web host Netmagic Solutions. Both the acquisition and the new Singapore data center are a part of its Asian growth strategy. In the summer, NTT COM will launch the Asia Submarine-cable Express, a low-latency network system linking major Asia cities.

According to the press release, the data center was built by NTT Worldwide Telecommunications Corporation and the services will be offered through NTT Singapore, wholly-owned subsidiaries of NTT Com.

The data center is able to host high density racks of up to 12kVA and its infrastructure is IPv6 ready.

“Many of the world’s major financial institutions are increasingly shifting their focus to Asia and this has seen the growth of Asian financial hubs, particularly in Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo,” Takeshi Kazami, president and CEO of NTT Singapore said in a statement. “The Singapore Serangoon Data Center puts NTT Communications in a prime position to support the connectivity needs of the financial sector in Asia. This move also supports our strategy to expand business in the fast-growing Asian region which is expected to account for 40 percent of the global economy in 2030.”

NTT Com says its standards for uniform, world-class data center facilities and operations are closely aligned with those of globally recognized organizations like the Telecommunications Industry Association, The Uptime Institute and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

“The Singapore Serangoon Data Center is purpose-built and is designed to be Tier IV ready to serve those mission critical IT systems of multinational corporations. The data center has received the Green Mark Platinum Award by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority. This certifies the building is environment-friendly, and utilizes water and energy efficiently,” Kazunori Tanaka, president and CEO of NTT WT said in a statement.
