(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications company GWI (www.gwi.net) announced this week it has recently opened a new cloud computing data center in Portland, Maine.
Located at 340 Cumberland Avenue, the new data center saves businesses in-house infrastructure and technical costs, while providing secure access to business information.
The data center has diverse underground power feeds, a 200KW back-up generator, raised floors and multiple fiber-optic connections for reliable access, the company said.
The facility also features a fire-suppression system and redundant cooling systems to protect customers’ crucial data.
“In order for Maine businesses to compete, win and create economic opportunity here, we are going to have to figure out how best to take advantage of cloud computing,” said GWI CEO Fletcher Kittredge.
The data center offers a range of flexible and cost effective options, and businesses can select data center space in full, one-half and one quarter rack increments.
GWI, which provides telephone and Internet services to both businesses and residential customers, plans to expand the data center as customer demand requires.
The company recently opened a new data center and cloud computing services division titled Northern Data Centers (www.northerndc.com) in Portland.
The company’s data centers feature an energy efficient design, deploying such technologies as hot air containment, water cooling, proper air flow, light colored roofing materials. The facilities also use hydropower, biomass, and natural gas.
