(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In response to increasing customer demand in the UK, European data center provider TelecityGroup (www.telecitygroup.com) is planning to build a new 3.5 megawatt data center in Manchester, and add 3 MW of customer capacity at its highly connected facilities London’s Docklands district.

According to TelecityGroup, it will be adding a total of 6.5MW of customer capacity in London to help support its customers in this constrained market.

TelecityGroup has five data centers located in London Docklands, all within close proximity of each other, which provide rich connectivity with direct access to a wide choice of network providers.

The latest expansion will be at TelecityGroup’s Harbour Exchange in the Docklands, where it will add 3 MW of customer capacity. Located in one of Europe’s most in-demand data center campuses, the additional capacity is scheduled to go online in Q4 2011.

The company also recently expanded its Sovereign House facility to provide an additional 1,000 square metres of data centre space at 2kW/rack.

Following its recent £21.1 million ($33.7 million) acquisition of Internet Facilitators Limited (www.ifl.co.uk) in Manchester, TelecityGroup is also announcing a new 3.5MW data center in the city, which is scheduled to open in Q3 2011. The company said the facility will help fulfil the latent demand for highly connected capacity in the north of England.

“We are pleased to announce the expansion at Harbour Exchange, one of our most in-demand sites in the Docklands area, as well as the new facility in Manchester,”, TelecityGroup UK and Ireland managing director Adriaan Oosthoek said in a statement. “Both will complement the 21MW expansion to Powergate which we announced in April this year, as we continue to invest in our portfolio of data centres in the UK.”
