Tata Extends MPLS to Middle East

September 29, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — India-based telecommunications provider Tata Communications (tatacommunications.com) announced on Monday it has expanded connectivity to the Middle East through a partnership with Bahrain Telecommunications Company (batelco.com).

According to the company’s most recent announcement, this will enable Tata to offer multi protocol label switching virtual private network services into Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and other locations within the region for its customers in the Middle East.

Tata recently expanded its global VPN Extended Access Service to enable customers in more than 150 countries access to a cost-effective solution that does not require dedicated links.

“Our partnership with Batelco allows us to expand our network in the Middle East and serve our customers by leveraging in-region relationships, expertise and local knowledge,” says Radwan Moussalli, managing director of wholesale data and enterprise business for Tata Communications’ Middle East and North Africa region.

The Middle East region plays an increasingly important role in the current global economic scenario, witnessing growth in business and a corresponding demand for global connectivity solutions. The partnership with Batelco extends Tata Communications’ capability to provide MPLS services in 78 countries, further solidifying its footprint as a global player in this space, says the company.

As a member of the Tata Group, which according to the press release is worth US$6.25 billion, Tata Communications provides managed solutions – including services like transmission, IP, converged voice, mobility, managed network connectivity, hosting and storage, managed security, managed collaboration and business transformation – to multi-national and Indian enterprises, service providers and Indian consumers.

With the almost 100 subsidiaries in industries as diverse as tea and steel, Tata’s hosting services are becoming a major world-wide player with more than one million square feet of data center and colocation facilities worldwide.

Considering the international presence this company has in this market, it seems Tata Communications has been flying relatively under the radar until only recently when it began making a major push in its North American marketing for its managed services.

Earlier in September, Tata Communications announced the worldwide launch of its CDN service powered by content delivery network provider BitGravity.

And later in the month, the company made a fairly prominent splash at Tier 1 Research’s fourth annual Hosting Transformation Summit with a booth presence as well as a presentation by Tata’s hosting and data center services director of product management Vinay Nagpal, where he discussed how global reach and emerging markets penetration will be the next opportunity for growth.
