(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Indian telecommunications provider Tata Communications (www.tatacommunications.com) announced on Wednesday it has opened Tata Communications Exchange data center in Tai Seng, Singapore that is designed to meet the IT outsourcing needs of enterprises in the APAC region.
The six-storey data center is situated in Tai Seng’s I-Park media hub complex.
The $180 million facility has 66,000 square feet of data center space and will provide increased capacity for both domestic and international firms.
TCX is part of the $430 million that Tata Communications plans to invest in APAC between 2009 and 2011.
This data center is integrated into Tata Communications’ Tier-1 IP backbone that connects Asia, Europe, North America and Africa.
The facility will give Asia Pacific enterprises access to Tata Communications’ suite of data center services including managed security services, data center collocation and network collocation.
The data center will also support Tata Communications’ cloud computing and managed hosting and storage services, which the company says it will launch in the future.
TCX includes eco-friendly features such as diesel rotary UPS which reduces power conversion losses, with no toxic batteries that require disposal or future replacement, a cooling system that uses variable speed computer room air conditioning units and air flow management.
It also features contiguous data center floors for cabling and power supply, air-cooled chillers that eliminate the need for water storage facilities and consumption, and a Power Usage Effectiveness that is considerably low for data centers located in tropical regions.
Tata Communications’ data center operations and services are monitored and managed on-site, and remotely, from its centralized Managed Services Operations Centre.
The company is currently building what will be its largest data center in India.
