(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Deutsche Telekom-owned (www.deutschetelekom.com) telecommunications provider T-Systems (www.t-systems.com) announced on Thursday it has partnered with Digital Realty Trust (www.digitalrealtytrust.com) to open a 34,655-square-foot facility in Tempe, Arizona.
The partnership between T-Systems and Digital Realty Trust enables the data center to start with a minimum of speculative capital, T-Systems said.
Digital Realty Trust has announced several customer wins in the past couple months, including IT services provider BT Global Financial Services and Irish telecommunications provider Eircom.
With the new Arizona data center, T-Systems expands its global data center footprint, bringing the number of T-Systems managed data centers to more than 80 worldwide and nine in North America.
The data center will be used to service the information technology needs of a major commercial wireless broadband network provider.
According to the press release, Digital Realty Trust’s move-in ready space “dramatically reduces the time it takes to get the data center up and running,” with a highly energy efficient design that uses the “best practices and award-winning green data center programs that reduce operating costs.”
“We are pleased that T-Systeys selected us as its data center facility partner,” says Michael Foust, CEO of Digital Realty Trust. “Our unique approach enables companies like T-Systems to respond rapidly to market opportunities by dramatically reducing the time to market for new data centers. Our customers reduce financial risk by partnering with a company with world-class engineering and an operations team.”
T-Systems has a global infrastructure of computer centers and networks, operating information and communications technology for multinational corporations and public institutions.
The company has about 46,000 employees and generated revenue of around EUR 12 billion in the 2007 financial year.
Digital Realty Trust owns, acquires, redevelops, develops and manages technology-related real estate, providing turn-key data center and powered base building data center solutions for domestic and international tenants across a range of industry sectors.
In August 2008, Jim Smith became the first person to hold the position of chief technology officer at Digital Realty Trust.
