T-Mobile Portal Deploys Sun Infrastrcuture

August 8, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Sun Microsystems (sun.com) announced on Monday that it would provide IT infrastructure and applications for T-Mobile’s customer portal, which is hosted by LogicaCMG (logicacmg.com).

T-Mobile will deploy Sun hardware and software, including the Solaris Operating System, Sun Java System Identity Manager, Sun Java System Directory Server Enterprise Edition, Sun StorEdge storage systems and Sun Fire servers.

Sun says its technology will help T-Mobile’s portal provision services, store customer records and process purchases across European markets. Darrell Jordan-Smith, vice president of global telecommunications at Sun, says with Sun’s help T-Mobile will achieve better customer service levels while driving down costs and enhancing revenue opportunities.

“Since 2001 T-Mobile has developed and operated a single portal for the majority of its European operating companies,” says Kevin Cunnington, executive vice president for portals and portal infrastructure at T-Mobile. “We recognized the need to substantively reduce the ongoing costs of both the development and operation of this service. This deal allows us to migrate to a truly commoditized portal solution, underpinned by innovative hardware, software and hosting services and produce a truly high availability, best-of-class third-generation portal at substantively reduced cost.”
