The Sys-Con Events team issued the following statement to its conference
r
attendees on Sept. 13:
r
r
“The tragedies that occurred in New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania
r
continue to reverberate around the world. Today we are still reeling from
r
the pain, and it will never be forgotten. The famous New York City skyline,
r
now destroyed, will remain a constant reminder of everyone and everything
r
that’s been lost. However, the terrorists have failed to destroy the
r
American spirit. This has been clear in the past 48 hours as the people of
r
New York continue to show their heroic bravery.
r
r
“After careful and heartfelt consideration and consultations with government
r
officials, as well as our key partners in the events, we have decided to go
r
ahead with all conference activities scheduled for Web Services Edge 2001
r
East and JDJEdge 2001. The conferences will be held as planned at the Hilton
r
New York, Sept. 23-26. The Hilton New York is located in upper midtown at
r
1335 Avenue of the Americas, between W.53rd and W.54th Streets, several
r
miles north of the World Trade Center.
r
r
“In making this decision, we took into account the message that our
r
political, spiritual, and industry leaders have stressed: we can’t let a
r
vicious act committed by a few evil people change our way of life. We also
r
took into account that over a year of planning has gone into this event.
r
Thousands of people and companies are involved. The presentations on both
r
exhibitor and speaker fronts represent the very finest state-of-the-art
r
technology available – to be shared by all those who want to advance in
r
their fields.”
r
r
As of today, more than 150 leading Java, XML and Web Services companies will
r
participate in this year’s Web Services Edge (East and West) conference
r
programs, as faculty, sponsors, and exhibitors.
