Switch and Data Completes SAS 70 II Audit

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Switch and Data (www.switchanddata.com) announced on Wednesday it has completed a Statement on Auditing Standards Number 70 Type II audit at its Tampa headquarters.

The audit includes its centralized Operations Service Support Center, Security Operations Center and human resources groups located in its Tampa headquarters.

The announcement follows Switch and Data’s recent customer win, when it signed an agreement with market trading information solutions provider QuantHouse to expand its operations at Switch and Data’s New York facility.

The company also included its new site expansions in Dallas and Sunnyvale in this SAS 70 Type II audit, covering the areas of operations and controls, physical security, and environmental security.

The audit also included Switch and Data’s central customer-facing groups, which support all of the company’s 34 data centers across North America.

SAS 70 Solutions of Tampa administered and certified the audits. The audit firm had previously performed a SAS 70 Type I audit and certification for Switch and Data.

“Switch and Data continues to invest in its infrastructure and practices,” says Ernie Sampera, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Switch and Data. “These certifications compliment our site expansions to give our customers improved performance specifications combined with operational best practices. This allows customers to deploy the latest high-density computing equipment, and gain access to the numerous global and domestic network service providers, partners and customers present in the company’s established sites.”

Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, SAS 70 certification is designed as an auditing standard to assess service providers’ internal processes and controls.

The audit certifies that a service provider has developed and put in place standard controls to manage its business and the delivery of its service to customers. The evaluation includes “controls for the control consciousness of the organization, physical safeguards to personnel and information assets, and environmental safeguards to personnel and information.”

Last month, data center provider CRG West also completed its SAS 70 Type II audit at its Boston and Chicago data centers.
