(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Web hosting provider Surpass Hosting (www.surpasshosting.com) has introduced a “developer hosting plan,” which features more than a dozen development frameworks and a wide variety of key tools for web developers, as well as a free private IP address, unlimited shell access, and access to several pre-loaded software revision control systems.
Starting at just $15 per month, according to Surpass Hosting’s announcement this week, the developer plan offers 1000GB of disk space, un-metered monthly data transfer, a dedicated SSL certificate, and the ability to host up to five domain names. The developer plan is also Surpass Hosting’s first to fully support Ruby on Rails as deployed using mod_ruby and Phusion Passenger (mod_rails) in conjunction to create a stable and functional environment for Ruby on Rails development.
“The Developer Plan is based on a new server architecture that is more pliable for the typical developer and offers many more options for advanced web development, including the cornerstone of the plan, Surpass Hosting Developer Tools,” Surpass Hosting sales vice president Kayla Fleming said in a statement. “We’ve noticed that most so-called developer hosting plans are skeletal. Our Developer plan takes it to a new level and offers the toolbox of technologies that developers need to create first class web applications.”
Surpass Hosting Developer Tools lets clients install more than a dozen development frameworks, each automatically updated each night from the repository trunk to keep the code up to date. The development frameworks include Ruby on Rails, jQuery, CakePHP, Blueprint CSS, Dojo Toolkit, Ext JS, MooTools, Prototype, Scriptaculous, CodeIgniter, Doctrine, Smarty, Symfony, and Zend.
All Surpass Hosting’s shared hosting plans, including the developer plan, are hosted on Quad-Core servers powered and housed in the company’s private, 12,000-square-foot data center in Orlando, Florida.
