(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider SunGard Availability Services (www.sungard.com) announced on Wednesday it has opened a third data center in Philadelphia that will provide its customers with IT infrastructure and managed services.
SunGard has invested $25 million in the new 120,000 square foot facility, bringing the company’s total data center footprint in Philadelphia to 350,000 square feet.
According to the press release, SunGard’s “concentration of business continuity and disaster recovery facilities is the largest in Philadelphia and is expected to attract more than 30,000 customer visits this year.”
The company employs more than 400 employees in Philadelphia and a total of 2,700 employees in the Greater Philadelphia region.
“The new facility extends SunGard’s position in providing a robust, resilient infrastructure,” says Arjun Moorthy, vice president of infrastructure at SunGard Availability Services. “It is a state-of-the-art data center in terms of systems redundancy, uptime and efficiency. The center also supports best practices in energy efficiency to help advance both SunGard’s and its customers’ sustainability strategies.”
SunGard provides a range of managed IT services, including hosting services, application services, email and collaboration services, network services, managed security services, storage services and replication services.
Offering multi-platform support, the new data center is designed to deliver highly available hosted solutions.
The facility has a redundant power infrastructure with two independent power sources, which can each power the building, as well as an emergency back-up generator.
The facility also features an advanced security and environmental monitoring, as well as a redundant HVAC system that incorporates best practices to maintain a stable and energy efficient environment.
Using the supplied workstations, customers can conduct business on-site.
SunGard Availability Services provides disaster recovery services, managed IT services, information availability consulting services and business continuity management software to more than 10,000 customers in North America and Europe.
