Complete with a CD-ROM drive and Web hosting software, the re-branded and enhanced Sun Fire V100 provides a robust and secure platform that is less vulnerable to viruses or worm attacks.

The one rack unit high Sun Fire V100 system is pre-installed with the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, rated the best UNIX operating system by DH Brown. Out of the box, customers can also now choose to run iPlanet Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.0, including full support for Java applications using JavaServer Pages and Java Servlet technology. The iPlanet Web Server is a component of Sun ONE, Sun’s vision, architecture, platform, and expertise that enables the development and delivery of services on demand.

Allowing customers to easily deploy ASP-based Web sites and applications that traditionally ran on Microsoft Internet Information Web Servers, Apache HTTP Server and Sun Chili!Soft ASP software are also included.

Formerly the Netra X1 server, the Sun Fire V100 now joins Sun’s UltraSPARC/Solaris, binary compatible Sun Fire server line, bringing the reliability, availability and serviceability of data center servers to a single processor system that is easy to use and administer. The Sun Fire V series now provides general-purpose servers ranging from the single processor Sun Fire V100 to the eight-way Sun Fire V880 server.

The Sun Fire V100 system comes pre-installed with Lights Out Management (LOM). LOM provides remote system management with enclosure (environmental) monitoring and control, NVRAM containing the last 700+ events, Host Status Monitoring (Solaris LOM API, SNMP/MIB, Sun MC, front/rear LEDs), Power Control, Automatic Server Restart (ASR), programmable soft alarms, and Unified Serial Management Interface.

The one rack unit high Sun Fire V100 has a variety of benefits, including: CD-ROM standard on all configurations and slide rails to help with in-rack servicing; 19-inch deep chassis to allow two or four post racking; Compact footprint (17W x 19D); 500 MHz processor; a maximum of 2x40GB/7200RPM IDE drives; and 2 GB of maximum memory.
