(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In partnership with The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, Livestream (www.livestream.com) will be streaming a six-and-a-half hour feed of the traditional ball drop in New York City’s Times Square for free around the world.
According to on-demand online broadcasting provider Livestream, the event will start at 6 pm local time with the ball raising ceremony, practice countdowns, stage performances, handouts, special guests, and of course the midnight ball drop. There will also be a special feed for iPhone users.
As well, Livestream will be showing celebrations from all different time zones across the globe. The New Year’s Nation channel has setup more than 10,000 guests in 10 cities worldwide to capture their New Years celebrations, such as New Year’s Eve performances at the Fox Theater in Oakland, and the quirky “Little Apple Ball Drop” in Manhattan, Kansas.
Dallas-based CoreXchange (www.corexchange.com) has again been selected for the second year in a row to provide NTN-TV’s New Year’s Nation with data center and network infrastructure services from its Dallas Infomart data center. Under the agreement, CoreXchange will provide bandwidth and power for New Year’s Nation, which is expected to draw more than 10,000 guests and thousands more watching via NTN-TV online. Last year’s online broadcast of the New Year’s Nation event drew 42,000 Internet viewers.
“All of our production work takes place at CoreXchange, which gives us premium network performance and reliability,” New Year’s Nation president Jann Yogman said in a statement. “What’s seen simultaneously coast-to-coast by our audience of tens of thousands of Internet viewers is selected from NTN-TV’s control central, which is powered by the CoreXchange network access exchange with seamless, one-hop access to all of the major Internet backbones.”
There are, of course, other options for watching New Year’s coverage. Ustream (www.ustream.tv) is ringing in the new year with live video streams of New Year’s Eve celebrations across the globe. It is streaming CBS’s coverage in New York, the Funchal Harbor fireworks off the coast of Portugal, and the Junkanoo Cultural Festival live at the Bahamas.
