A screen shot of Akorri's BalancePoint software
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud storage firm NetApp (www.netapp.com) announced on Wednesday it will acquire virtualization management software provider Akorri Networks (www.akorri.com). The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The announcement marks the first major acquisition for NetApp since last May when it acquired cloud storage provider Bycast.
Akorri offers virtual infrastructure optimization software without the use of any agents. Its BalancePoint suite provides troubleshooting applications that let administrators detect performance issues, improve storage capacity planning, and manage relationships between virtual servers and storage resources.
Though the software focuses on storage, BalancePoint can also be used to analyze and optimize server, application and network environments.
Akorri’s software is compatible with VMware, Hyper-V, Windows, Linux, AIX and HP-UX. NetApp says it plans to integrate BalancePoint into its NetApp OnCommand management suite.
“The ability to accurately predict and manage performance and capacity requirements has been a common obstacle for many customers wanting to transition to a virtualized environment,” says Manish Goel, executive vice president of product operations at NetApp. “Akorri further strengthens NetApp’s data management capabilities to achieve greater quality of service and performance in their virtual and cloud environments.”
Akorri says its customer base has increased by more than 100 percent in 2010. The company has partnerships with a range of vendors including Brocade, Cisco, Dell/Equalogic, EMC, HP, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM and LSI.
The acquisition, which will be an all-cash deal, is expected to close in April.
