Star Internet Offers IBM Managed Service

“This service takes the vision of an On Demand data center and makes it a reality. It represents the future for managed services, where all servers, storage and application requirements are used ‘on demand’ rather than bought ‘just in case’, says Mark Lamb, technical director of managed services at Star. “Under this model, firms of all sizes can be flexible and efficient in responding to e-business needs, maximising performance while minimising costs. And the reliability of the service is such that firms can expect their performance to be backed by SLAs that guarantee real business benefit as well as peace of mind.”

The service was introduced on Thursday at a business seminar, jointly hosted by Star Internet and IBM, in London, England.

At the seminar, Star Internet also released the results of an IT industry survey. According to the research, over half (56 percent) of UK firms said that they increased server capacity last year based on an increase in e-commerce activity. The study also found that 53 percent of those surveyed expected to increase server capacity again in 2004. Of this 53 percent, just over one in four expected to increase that capacity by over 50 percent.

Meanwhile, one in four companies said they maintained 31-50 percent of server capacity “just in case.”
