Spymac Increases Mail Storage to 1GB

The company says it is offering both POP3 and Webmail access to the email accounts. The Web-based mail will include banner advertising and 100 MB of Web hosting space. An annual free of $20 will remove the advertising and increase the amount of hosting space, Spymac said.

Spymac’s announcement comes following the launch of Google’s Gmail, a free, searchable email service, which came with an unprecedented 1GB of storage space. Yahoo and Hotmail, two of the most popular free email services, charge for storage capacity that exceeds its storage allotments of 4MB and 2MB respectively.

“We agree with the staff at Google, an increase in email storage to one gigabyte makes sense,” says Kevin April, co-founder of Spymac. “We already have the infrastructure in place, so we can launch the first version of the expanded service today.”

April told Cnet that he hopes the expanded storage space will attract new members who will purchase its Web hosting services and support its paid advertising.
