March 7, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- According to reports, overall spam levels are on the rise despite the fact that spam originating from zombie machines is down.

Email security firm MessageLabs (messagelabs.com) reported that spam grew from 72 percent of inbound email traffic in September of 2004 to 83 percent in January or 2005. According to another series of tests conducted between September 2004 and February 2005, connections from zombie machines were down 20 percent.

The data reportedly show that spammers are deploying new tactics in order to get around the defenses of Internet service providers.
