Hetzner's CPT1 data center in the Great Westerford building
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — South African web hosting provider Hetzner (www.hetzner.co.za) announced on Monday it has expanded its CPT1 data center, located in Cape Town’s Great Westerford building, adding over 20 percent national capacity to meet customer demand.
The expansion adds the latest features including energy efficient cooling and UPS systems, as well as innovative engineering solutions that enhance the facility’s flexibility, resilience and performance.
“With this facility we are returning to designing and operating our own facilities in close collaboration with our engineering colleagues in Germany,” said Deon de Villiers, managing director of Hetzner. “Managing our own facility gives us control over the engineering detail of the hosting environment, which will enhance the long-term value proposition for our customers. All new server orders will be provisioned in this facility. In all that we do, our concern is for the customer. We believe they would be delighted with the investment and engineering that has gone into this expansion if they could peak under the hood.”
Hetzner owns and operates four data centers in South Africa, including CPT1, which opened in 2001.
In order to cope with national demand in hosting services, Hetzner strategically opened the Johannesburg data center, JHB1, in July 2004 at Gallo Manor, Sandton.
By 2006 both data centers were running at full capacity, resulting in Hetzner opening its second Cape Town data center, CPT2, in July 2006.
With customer demand increasing further, Hetzner will open its third data center, CPT3, this fall.
Hetzner’s sister company, Hetzner Online AG, is currently building a new 430,000 square foot data center park in Nuremberg, Germany.
The parent company, Hetzner International, provides shared and dedicated hosting services to the European and South African markets.
