(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – South African Web host and domain registrar Get Green (www.getgreen.co.za) announced on Monday that it is offering a new carbon-neutral web hosting solution.

According to the press release, Get Green powers and cools its servers with renewable wind and solar energy enabling the comapny to offer a web hosting plan for businesses and organizations interested in eliminating their carbon footprint.

Get Green says that for every watt of electricity used by a server, 1 to 2 watts of energy are used to cool it. The company uses renewable energy to cool its servers since and offsets the electricity used by the servers as well.

“At first, our goal was to reduce our own carbon footprint and then it just evolved into Get Green,”  Chris Edington, CEO of Get Green said in a statement. “We’re taking the technology we’re using to be carbon-neutral and we’re offering it to other companies that are trying to ‘Get Green,’ too. We’re helping our clients become more planet-friendly while providing them with an awesome web hosting service.”

As a certified GreenPop tree planting partner, Get Green plants at least one tree for every new client sign-up. The company plants one tree with its Seedling package, two trees with its Nursery package and three trees with its premium package, Plantation.

In addition, when a business purchases a hosting plan with Get Green, the Web host provides a “Gone Green” badge to display on their website. This badge enables customers to instantly identify the business as environmentally conscious.
