Sonsasoft Adds Exchange Version

April 18, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Database recovery software provider Sonsasoft (sonasoft.com) announced on Monday it has released a new version of SonaSafe for Exchange Server. The new version contains a variety of advanced features including dynamic mailbox backups, enhanced replication and recovery capability.

The Sonasoft solution protects data from hardware and software failures, as well as human errors. It maintains the redundant standby server by continually updating the data with that retrieved from the primary system. The standby system, which can be on site or located at a remote site for protection against natural or man-made disasters, can take over instantly in the event of primary system failure.

Because the backup of mailboxes over 2GB in PST format on the Exchange Server level is impossible due to limitations in the mail application programming interface, the application’s dynamic mailbox backup splits mailboxes with sizes of over 2GB. The complete backup of a mailbox has to be done only once, after which only incremental are needed.

“With the increasing importance of Microsoft Exchange Server as a platform for messaging and collaboration and government laws regarding data access, it’s imposing a big challenge on IT administrators to keep and retrieve emails on a more frequent basis and at the same time make Exchange Server available 24/7,” says Bilal Ahmed, VP of engineering and CTO at Sonasoft. “Sonasoft’s SonaSafe solution helps IT in achieving those goals in a manner where either the whole Information Store or a single email is recovered with the click of a mouse.”
