January 15, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — On-demand Web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (softlayer.com) announced on Monday it has made a multi-million dollar Cisco upgrade to its core network in order to meet the future bandwidth requirements of the Internet.
Two of the Web host’s backbone providers, Verio and Internap, have been upgraded to multiple 10GB connections and the remaining carriers will be upgraded throughout the first quarter of this year. The network enhancement focuses on large-scale bandwidth usage while signicantly increasing the packets per second capability across the entire network.
“The rules for content providers are constantly changing,” says Lance Crosby, president and CEO of SoftLayer Technologies. “Web 2.0 technology companies require a quality of service and a suite of offerings that standard hosting companies can no longer deliver. We’re addressing those needs.”
Dallas, Texas based SoftLayer delivers low cost on-demand hosting services for the small to medium enterprise. Using a combination of proprietary software and network-within-a-network topology, the company delivers power and control to securely manage IT environments while providing high scalability.
