(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Accelerating the performance, availability and protection of web applications, SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) is integrating virtual web application delivery appliance Citrix NetScaler VPX (www.citrix.com/netscalervpx), making customer applications five times faster and lowering server costs by 60 percent.
According to its Monday announcement, SoftLayer will deploy Citrix NetScaler VPX on dedicated hardware for all customers to provide complete control over the network and computing infrastructure. Citrix NetScaler VPX provides a cost-effective and highly adaptable means to implement advanced application delivery services.
“We’re excited that SoftLayer has chosen Citrix Netscaler VPX as its enterprise-class web application delivery solution,” Citrix NetScaler product group vice president and general manager Klaus Oestermann said in a statement. “Citrix NetScaler VPX will help SoftLayer customers optimize application performance and delivery, allowing users to converge virtualization and networking.”
NetScaler VPX combines load balancing, application acceleration, firewalls, and other features to optimize web application delivery infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and security through integrated firewalls, and automatically respond to periods of high demand using dynamic provisioning. It can also migrate an application from one set of resources to another and implement several tiers of application delivery functionality to support applications that are highly decomposed or have massive scalability requirements.
A virtualized solution itself, NetScaler VPX supports the full spectrum of web application infrastructures and deployment techniques from conventional dedicated physical hardware designs to emerging virtualized approaches, along with the many possible permutations in between.
SoftLayer chief technology officer Nathan Day said the adoption of NetScaler VPX is SoftLayer’s latest effort in its continuous effort of providing customers the latest and most efficient solutions. “Citrix NetScaler VPX is yet another option that customers can leverage to build a fast, responsive, and secure IT environment,” Day said in a statement.
