SoftLayer Participates in Game Developer Conference This Week

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — On-demand data center services provider SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) is participating in this year’s Game Developer Conference Canada (www.gdc-canada.com) in Vancouver, BC, which brings together established studios as well as emerging start-ups.

The second annual GDC Canada will be held May 6 and 7 at the Vancouver Convention Center. SoftLayer’s sponsoring of GDC Canada fits in-line with the company’s efforts to become a trusted provider of game development and hosted environment infrastructure.

“This event is a perfect fit for us as an infrastructure provider,” SoftLayer chief strategy officer George Karidis said in a statement. “By providing developers with on-demand hardware and robust network resources, we help allow them do what they do best rather than focusing on their hosting or data center environment.”

The Game Developers Conference attracts attendees from all facets of the gaming industry to explore business development strategies and best practices. In fact, in recognition of the toll the recession has taken on elements of the mainstream video game industry, GDC Canada organizers offered free Main Conference passes to Canadian game developers laid off in the last twelve months to help them return to the game industry.

Headquartered in Plano, Texas, SoftLayer provides best-in-class infrastructure-as-a-service with data centers in Dallas, Seattle, and Washington, DC, as well as network Points of Presence across the US.

SoftLayer was recently named Editor’s Choice for Game Servers by Find My Host (www.findmyhost.com), an online resource that provides information on web hosting companies for developers. SoftLayer has also won the Editors’ Choice Award for cloud computing, Web hosting, reseller hosting, and dedicated hosting.

In 2010 SoftLayer will be a multi-event sponsor of Game Development Conferences around the world including San Francisco, Vancouver, Austin, and Cologne, Germany.

Also in an effort to make itself more visible (within the gaming industry so to speak), SoftLayer recently provided the streaming infrastructure for the 2010 Masters Golf Tournament live on the Internet between April 5 and 11.
