The SoftLayer Outlet offers a hodgepodge of servers, all housed within its industry-leading data centers.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In an effort to provide less expensive options to businesses during the economic recession, SoftLayer Technologies (www.softlayer.com) has created a new sales-channel in which it will offer discounted dedicated servers through a new, easy-to-use online form, and see real-time server availability in all of SoftLayer’s data centers.
According to the company’s announcement late last week, the SoftLayer Outlet (outlet.softlayer.com) offers a hodgepodge of aggressively priced servers that all reside within SoftLayer’s industry-leading data centers. Also, each comes with all the premium features and services that are standard with any SoftLayer server including unlimited private network and 2000 GB of public network bandwidth, a quality customer portal and API, comprehensive software offering, Passmark BurnIn testing and a network intrusion detection system.
“We know that customers appreciate value now more than ever,” SoftLayer chief strategy officer George Karidis said in a statement. “We feel that through the combination of our industry leading network, software services, and value priced hardware offerings we will be able to provide our customers with a viable solution during the current economic climate.”
SoftLayer’s discount server sales channel is reminiscent of The Planet’s (www.theplanet.com) “Planet Alpha Bargain Bin” (www.planetalpha.com/bargain-bin/), unveiled in October 2008, in which the web hosting provider features overstocked and clearance dedicated servers in a range of configurations available on a revolving basis with prices starting at $45 per month.
The Planet’s bargain server offering was predated by web hosting infrastructure provider iWeb (www.iweb8.com), which introduced its dedicated server clearance warehouse in November 2007.
