SoftLayer Adds Development Network

May 30, 2007 — (WEB HOST IDNUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (softlayer.com) announced on Wednesday that it had launched a development network, providing customers with “direct access” to the development team that builds the company’s open API system.

“The new SLDN will give our customers access like never before,” says Dorian George, director of product development at SoftLayer. “As the first dedicated hosting company to offer an Open API system coupled with the support of the SLDN, SoftLayer is serving up the total and complete solution.”

SoftLayer launched the API last week, calling it the first open API designed to control all facets of the dedicated hosting environment

Through the development network, customers of the company will have access to developers and system administrators to help them integrate API features into custom applications, commercial software or coporate intranets. The SLDN also provides a software development kit that includes information on building and integrating applications relevant to the SoftLayer API.

The company has also launched public forums where developers can share information and progress. SoftLayer development group blogs will report on new features, updates and changes to the API.

“With the addition of the SLDN, developers have unprecedented access to information relevant to their hosting goals,” says George. “It’s a digital think tank of sorts, where the exchange of ideas and information is welcome and encouraged.”
