February 19, 2009 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud testing technology provider SOASTA (www.soasta.com) has launched its CloudTest Global Platform for load and performance testing web applications and networks, enabling companies to simulate web traffic and conditions by leveraging the elasticity and power of cloud computing.
Delivering the first cloud-based test platform dedicated to global web performance testing, according to the company’s Wednesday announcement, this platform enables cross-cloud testing on top cloud platforms such as Amazon EC2, Rackspace, 3Tera AppLogic and Enomaly.
As global organizations increasingly rely on the quality, reliability and performance of their applications, CloudTest Global Platform emulates real world web conditions from different geographies, different time zones, and at different levels of scale.
SOASTA’s CloudTest Global Platform draws upon its web application test lab, CloudTest On-Demand, which enables load generation from thousands of servers from more than 15 locations around the world, providing an accurate representation of real world web traffic.
Unlike traditional, hard-wired networks, the CloudTest Global Platform makes use of the Cloud’s elasticity to dynamically provision computing power and virtual users from major worldwide locations. Users can simulate real world conditions, such as a short burst of users in New York, London, and Hong Kong all simultaneously hitting an application at the same time.
“Because the web is not a static platform, it’s virtually impossible to simulate real web conditions in an internal test lab or proprietary network,” SOASTA chief executive officer Tom Lounibos said in a statement. “By leveraging the cloud, we use the web as a platform to test web applications and networks and are uniquely able to provide the most accurate representation of real world web conditions. Two years from now, we see the cloud as the only viable platform for the load and performance testing of web systems. Cloud computing has forever changed how we test our web applications and networks.”
Lounibos added that several companies including Hallmark, Proctor & Gamble, QTRAX and Chegg.com have already used the Global CloudTest Platform to reduce performance related errors, latency, and site crashes.
The Global CloudTest Platform is available as an on-demand service starting at an all-inclusive $1,000 per hour, which covers all service charges incurred by using cloud platforms, all software testing costs, and all test resources required to deliver the results and analytics produced by the test.
Enomaly (www.enomaly.com) founder and chief technologist Reuven Cohen (who is also co-founder of Cloud Camp (www.cloudcamp.com)) noted that the Global CloudTest Platform is “very cool.” In a statement, Cohen said, “This is a remarkable advancement in leveraging the power of Elastic Computing. SOASTA CloudTest Global Platform is a perfect combination of application functionality harnessing the scalable power and affordability delivered by several Cloud platforms operating as one.”
