SmarterMail To Use ActiveSync for Mobile Sync

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In a new partnership with Microsoft (www.microsoft.com), IT management software developer SmarterTools (www.smartertools.com) is including the ability to license Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for use with its upcoming mail server software as an optional add-on for synchronizing email, calendars, tasks, and notes between mobile devices.

Currently in beta, SmarterMail 6.x Windows Mail Server will let users add synchronization capabilities to their email using Microsoft’s Exchange ActiveSync technology, which will be available on a yearly subscription “priced well below the competition,” according to its Tuesday announcement.

“With the addition of ActiveSync, SmarterMail truly is a complete alternative to Microsoft Exchange,” said Tim Uzzanti, CEO of SmarterTools. “Whether you want to synchronize mobile devices, allow Web-based users to easily collaborate with one another, or simply need a high-volume and extremely stable mail server, SmarterMail is the cost-effective solution.”

SmarterTools will also allow customers to add ActiveSync selectively to only the mailboxes that need the enterprise-level technology, making adoption of the add-on scalable and more affordable to small and medium-sized businesses, ISPs and hosting companies.

SmarterMail features an easy-to-use Webmail interface, collaboration, reporting and throttling, as well as out-of-the-box antispam, antivirus, and security features. It also supports synchronization between Microsoft Outlook, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile devices, and Apple’s iPhones (including the new 3GS model).
