July 2, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — SAP AG (sap.com) partner Intalec Partnership LLP (intalec.com) will be migrating its SAP ASP installation to managed web host Smartbunker (smartbunker.com), to essentially offer ‘SAP as a Service.’

A division of Centrinet (centri.net), Smartbunker announced the partnership in a press release Wednesday. For a monthly fee, users will be able to access a fully managed SAP solution through a secure Internet connection. Smartbunker said Intalec customers will “receive all of the benefits of SAP without the pressure of administering their own installation.”

Intalec program manager for professional services Ian Derbyshire said current customers will not notice disruptions to service. “As far as our customers are concerned the migration of the service was non-disruptive and in fact almost invisible,” said Derbyshire. ”With the service now operating from Smartbunker’s hosting platform, users have already noticed increased performance.”

As well as having enterprise-class data center infrastructure, military-bunker-turned-data-center Smartbunker is the first zero-carbon managed hosting provider in the UK. “Smartbunker provides us with the flexibility and scalability that we need to grow and develop further services, as well as enabling us to offer an environmentally responsible service,” said Derbyshire. All data centre infrastructure is sourced from tier one vendors and its electricity from renewable supplier Ecotricity (ecotricity.co.uk). According to Smartbunker, security is industry leading.

Smartbunker Managing director Kelly Smith said that Intalec is a highly respected SAP partner that has invested a lot in hosting infrastructure when it originally developed and launched their ASP service. “Our managed hosting service removes the need for that large upfront investment, while easily meeting the technical parameters required for a successful ASP service,” Smith said in a statement.
