Siter allows smartphone users to treat any top level domain as a phone number. On Monday, the company launched a cPanel plugin for hosts and registrants to offer Siter domain dialing for free.
Registrars and web hosts can also integrate Siter’s partner API to make a 50/50 recurring revenue.
End users have to install the Siter app on their Android, iOS, Blackberry 10 and Windows Mobile devices for free to be able to use the domain dialing
It is free for users to assign phone numbers to domain names, but to assign multiple phone numbers, upload a logo or use the geolocation service is an extra cost. With the geolocation service, customers can search a domain or an email, and the closest address’ phone number will be listed, which is ideal for stores or businesses with multiple locations.
Placing Siter’s ladybug logo on a website notifies to Siter app users that it accepts domain dialing.
Siter works with all top level domains, and apparently will work with all new TLDs as well when they are launched.
As the way businesses use phones has evolved over the years, web hosts have had to adapt, offering VoIP services and other tools. Integrated calling has been a standard feature in website builders for some time, and this week, Outlook.com launched integrated Skype calls directly into the inbox. As more people continue to drop landlines and traditional telecommunications providers in favor of free options, apps like Siter will help small businesses adapt.
At the beginning of August, TrendyTools launched its HTML5 website builder cPanel plugin.
