SiteGround Adds Eco-Friendly Servers

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider SiteGround (www.siteground.com), which joined the AlphaSSL Partner Program last week, announced on Tuesday it is offering a new “low-cost and environmentally friendly” server solution – the Intel Atom 330.

According to its most recent announcement, SiteGround says it is the “first shared hosting provider” to offer this type of cost-effective and “green” solution to its customers.

On Friday, managed dedicated hosting provider SingleHop also announced it was one of the “first companies in the world” to deploy the Atom 330, as compared to the dedicated industry server standard Pentium 4.

According to several reports, Intel officially launched the dual-core Atom 330 in late September, which features two 1.6GHz processor cores, 1MB of cache and 64-bit processing.

Although it’s been just over a month since its launch, aside from SiteGround and SingleHop, it’s unsure how many hosting providers have actually deployed this server solution to date.

SiteGround says the Atom 330 has already become a “preferred” solution for customers, as compared to the previous best-selling Pentium 4 solution, because of its increased speed and response time as well as low cost. The company says the new technology has also reduced the energy consumption by 75 percent compared to other servers with similar characteristics.

“When we first heard about this server at SiteGround, we all loved it,” says Tina Kesova, a spokesperson for SiteGround. “The Intel Atom 330 gives us the chance to act in an environmentally responsible way without losing power or having to raise costs. It has a low voltage processor that saves so much energy and is yet so powerful. Our system administrators had run lots of tests to check its speed, durability, and the energy consumption levels. The results are impressive – the Intel Atom 330 has beaten any other server in its class we have ever used.”

SiteGround’s website says customers can order the Atom 330 for $179 per month with a $49 one-time setup fee.
