October 24, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — VeriSign (verisign.com) has moved into the top 50 Internet properties, according to comScore Media Metrix’s (comscore.com) Internet property rankings for September 2003, released this week.

According to the rankings, VeriSign was ranked as the 11th highest Internet property with 30,787,000 unique visitors, representing a jump of over 100 places from its previous position of 135. comScore Media Metrix said the jump was the largest increase in the month with the second largest increase representing a rise of only 15 places.

comScore Media Metrix said the rise in traffic to VeriSign sites, coming in at a rate of 541 percent, was attributed to VeriSign’s recently launched Site Finder Service, which redirects mistyped and misspelled URLs.

Heading the top 50 list of Internet properties was MSN-Microsoft sites with 110,167,000 unique visitors, followed by AOL, Yahoo!, ebay and Google. Positions 6 through 10 were occupied by Terra Lycos, About/Primedia, Amazon Sites, Gator Network and Excite Network.

comScore also reported that the Internet’s user population surpassed the 150 million mark for the first time ever.
