SingleHop Expands Network with nLayer

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet connectivity and wholesale bandwidth provider nLayer Communications (www.nlayer.net) has been selected by managed web-hosting company SingleHop (www.singlehop.com) to provide 30 Gigabits per second of network connectivity at multiple Chicago-area facilities.

According to nLayer’s Tuesday announcement, nLayer’s high-bandwidth IP backbone will enable Chicago-based SingleHop to support its customers’ bandwidth-intensive services. “Our robust global IP backbone gives us the scalability and flexibility to meet the needs of companies with significant IP traffic requirements, and to provide unparalleled performance and reliability,” nLayer chief technical officer Richard Steenbergen said in a statement.

Owning and operating its own global OC-192 infrastructure, nLayer maintains more than 900 Gigabits of edge capacity to other Internet networks around the world. Its customers include high-profile web properties, content delivery networks, web hosts and dedicated access providers across more than 35 locations in North America, Europe and Asia.

SingleHop operations vice president Andy Pace said the partnership benefits all clients through excellent peak-time performance, providing a strong platform for future growth. “With a total of 30 Gigabits per second, this new capacity provides yet another layer of protection against denial of service attacks, on top of the numerous measures we have already deployed,” Pace said in a statement.

Last month, SingleHop opened its second data center, located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, a Chicago suburb near O’Hare International Airport.
