June 19, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Internet security systems and appliances developer Netscreen Technologies Inc. (NetScreen.com) announced on Wednesday that communications company Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel.com) has chosen NetScreen security solutions as part of its managed hosting services, to secure customer data and equipment as well as protect its existing infrastructure.
Initially, says NetScreen, SingTel is deploying NetScreen-500s and NetScreen-100s within its EXPAN managed hosting services. The EXPAN service is a suite of offerings provided within a network centric hosting environment. It includes a range of services from entry-level rack space to customized data center rooms, to complex hosting and IT operational support with services such as systems and network management, data storage and administration, performance monitoring and security features.
Through the EXPAN service, multi-national corporations, ASPs and other Internet-related businesses can outsource their entire communications networks and Web hosting requirements to SingTel.
"By outsourcing, our customers can reduce the need for heavy capital expenditures on infrastructure and equipment. They mainly are looking for a high-performance, flexible, cost-effective service that is both reliable and secured," says Mary Ong, chief executive officer of managed hosting services for SingTel. "NetScreen complemented our competitive offering by providing high-performance, customized security solutions."
In each of the data centers, NetScreen solutions are deployed in a redundant configuration, in order to provide resilient network security. Able to support 25 virtual systems and 100 VLANs, NetScreen says it offers EXPAN customers security features for shared firewall services without having to deploy a separate device for each customer. Dedicated hosting clients can choose to install an integrated security solution with their hosted environment.
SingTel operates 10 data centers in six countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia, offering hosting services in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, through its alliance partners.
"Our goal is to help global service providers, like SingTel, to leverage our expertise and to roll out cost-effective network security offerings based on NetScreen's family of products," says David Flynn, vice president of marketing at NetScreen. "Value-added services, such as managed VPN and firewall, help service providers differentiate their services, reduce deployment costs and extend their customer base."
