(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider ServInt (www.servint.net) has introduced a new line of “Blog Servers,” making it easier for customers to launch and manage even highly trafficked blogs.
According to ServInt’s Thursday announcement, the new ServInt Blog Server packages are available to be hosted on a virtual private server or dedicated server, and represent the company’s latest effort to make its services as blog-friendly as possible. Blog Server packages start at $49 per month with no setup fee for a VPS plan, and are also available on all levels of ServInt’s Enterprise Dedicated Servers. Caldwell also said the features introduced with the new Blog Server Line are.
“ServInt has been setting the standard for blogger customer service for years,” ServInt founder and chief executive officer Reed Caldwell said in a statement. “Now, we are taking a step toward developing blog-specific technology and service platforms that scale faster, perform better and deliver optimal value for our blogging clients.”
The new offering was created in consultation with its blogging customers to determine the feature set that best meets the needs of this rapidly growing market segment. ServInt settled on providing customers cPanel, WordPress and Akismet spam filtering, as well as thousands of compatible plugins.
“Our customers helped us craft a service offering that gives bloggers the features they want, with simpler access to those features,” Caldwell said. “However, ServInt is about much more than hosting technologies and blogger-friendly feature sets. It’s also about the customer-facing human resources we’re allocating to this important Internet business community. While our Blog Server Line staff will be focused like a laser on the specific needs of bloggers, they will leverage the same enterprise-grade customer care and engineering resources we use for our largest clients.”
In a WHIR blog post, consultant Charlie Cory notes that cheap and free blog hosting services often lack necessary server resources, flexibility, and customer support. And while it’s fair to say that these matters are of little importance to many bloggers, they can be crucial for high-performance.
Blogs such as Brooks Melchior’s Sports by Brooks (www.sportsbybrooks.com), which broke news surrounding Tiger Woods’ personal life rely heavily on serv. Hosted by ServInt, Sports by Brooks survived the massive traffic spike because company engineers rolled out a custom solution quadrupling its server resources.
