August 29, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Chicago-based Web hosting company Server Central (servercentral.net) said yesterday it would sponsor a server for PHP.net (php.net), a popular open-source community dedicated to the development of the PHP scripting language.

The company said PHP.net will use the server, a dual Intel Xeon 2.4Ghz machine with 2GB RAM and a gigabit connection, “to perform the most resource-intensive tasks of maintaining an open source community,” which include database indexing, searching and downloads.

“We are proud to sponsor PHP.net and give back to the community which powers thousands of sites on our network,” said Jordan Lowe, president of Server Central. “Our contribution will allow PHP developers and users to have a powerful place to interact and share developments, which in turn, strengthens the product. The entire industry, not just PHP.net, will benefit from the power of this alliance.”
