Sentinel Plans Massive Data Center in New Jersey

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Sentinel Data Centers (www.sentineldatacenters.com) and construction firm Russo Development (www.russodevelopment.com) announced on Tuesday they have started building a large multi-tenant data center in Somerset, New Jersey, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

The existing 230,000 square foot single-story building is located on a 22.5 acre site, with the potential of expanding to 330,000 square feet.

Both companies have significant experience in the data center market. Sentinel was recently running three data centers in Massachusetts and Connecticut before it sold the facilities to Digital Realty Trust.

Meanwhile, Russo has built several single-tenant data center buildings in the past for financial companies in North Jersey.

The new data center will have 160,000 square feet of available wholesale data center space for enterprise customers.

“We have incorporated best practices from our eight-year delivery history and recent advancements in data center design into a state-of-the-art facility that we are extremely excited about,” says Josh Rabina, co-president of Sentinel Data Centers. “We have worked hard to optimize a product for the large-footprint user that is as robust and energy efficient as current technology enables and also provides ultimate flexibility for users to add capacity on demand without incurring up-front over-sizing costs due to forecast uncertainty.”

Russo Development is a “substantial ownership partner” in the New Jersey build, and will handle site preparation work for the data center.

Sentinel will draw from its data center experience to find tenants for the new data center, which will most likely stem from financial and pharmaceutical industries, says Rabina.

He says the ideal customer for the Sentinel project is an enterprise business that is seeking short-term space and long-term expansion.
