August 28, 2001 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Sendmail, Inc. (sendmail.com), a
leading provider of Internet messaging solutions,
announced yesterday the immediate availability of its
complete line of products for Linux on the IBM
mainframe. Sendmail Switch, Sendmail Advanced Message
Server and Sendmail Mobile Message Server on Linux for
the mainframe provide cost-effective email systems
with high scalability, reliability and manageability.
Performance tests conducted by Sendmail, Inc. and IBM
demonstrate that a single IBM eServer z900 mainframe
can support more than 2 million users, making it the
largest single-server email systems on Linux available
in the industry. For organizations requiring larger
environments, Sendmail's cluster architecture allows
customers to harness multiple mainframes to
transparently serve an even greater number of users.
"Service providers and a growing number of enterprises
see centralized email hosting as the preferred way to
provide the scalability and reliability needed to deal
with increasing email usage and message complexity,"
said Mark Levitt, research director, IDC. "The
mainframe environment is a strong platform for
centralized email hosting, especially for
organizations already using mainframes for
mission-critical applications with high performance
requirements."
Today large enterprises consider email as a critical
business system and require the high reliability and
low total cost of ownership. Impressive cost
reductions can be obtained for enterprises that
already host critical business applications on a
mainframe by adding the Sendmail solution as an
additional workload. Or, distributed enterprises can
consolidate multiple departmental or divisional mail
servers onto a single highly reliable platform. In
both cases, the company says the mail system
reliability improves while hardware and system
administration costs are substantially reduced.
"There is no debating that email is a vital
application for conducting business today," said Greg
Olson, executive vice president business development
of Sendmail, Inc. "Most larger companies already run
their critical applications on the mainframe platform
because it provides a level of reliability unmatched
by any other system with a total cost of ownership
optimized over 30 years. For these companies email is
best served on their mainframes."
Sendmail solutions on Linux for the IBM eServer z900

Sendmail, Inc. will be exhibiting Aug. 28-30, 2001, at
Linux World in San Francisco in booth no. 1144.
