November 14, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain online marketplace Sedo (sedo.com) announced on Tuesday it concluded its second .mobi “premium name” online auction on November 7, generating $760,000 for generating mobile content tools like taxi.mobi, dating.mobi, homes.mobi and adult.mobi.
The auction drew bidders from 32 countries and sold dotMobi Premium names such as taxi.mobi (for $75,111), dating.mobi ($73,000), homes.mobi ($53,700), motels.mobi ($47,000), hotel.mobi ($46,000), date.mobi ($40,000) and adult.mobi ($30,000). The dotMobi Premium Names list is a set of more than 5,000 commonly used words that dotMobi set aside during its formation.
In a series of three online auctions hosted by Sedo, dotMobi is the first domain company to offer selected names directly to the market via an auction process instead of a traditional “first come, first served” basis. Sedo’s third and final dotMobi auction will run November 28 through December 5.
“After the tremendous success of the first dotMobi auction, we had high expectations for the second auction as it featured premium domains in top verticals including real estate, automotive and dating,” says Tim Schumacher, CEO of Sedo. “There was never a doubt that this auction would generate even greater interest than the first, and the best is yet to come when the third dotMobi auction kicks off later this month.”
