A graph illustrates the top criteria for choosing an email security solution
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Over half of German IT managers say that spam levels have considerably increased over the past year, according to a report by email security provider eleven (www.eleven.de).
The annual survey of more than 300 industry experts at the CeBIT expo in Germany found that most companies “continue to face increasing strain” due to spam.
28 percent of respondents said that spam levels had stagnated, and 13 percent perceived them as declining.
The report says that more companies are willing to outsource email services. It found that 31 percent of respondents would have no reservations about outsourcing email, though restrictive regulations in German companies around ousourcing IT services “present a significant obstacle.” Approximately 27 percent of respondents said that their company policy do not allow managed services.
About 12 percent of those surveyed said they had concerns about outsourcing for security reasons. Last year nearly half of respondents said they would not consider managed services.
The report says that respondents select anti-spam and email security solutions based on the loss of legitimate emails due to incorrect spam filter categorization, or false positives. 30 percent of respondents said that false positive rate was one of the most important criteria. 62 percent said that spam detection rates was the most important criteria when deciding which security solution to deploy in their organization.
In July 2010, the WHIR interviewed eleven’s head of corporate communications Sascha Krieger on email security.
