(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud security provider Dome9 Security (www.dome9.com) announced on Wednesday that it has released its cloud server security service. According to the press release, Dome9 Central is the only secure firewall management platform available for cloud, virtual private servers, dedicated servers and Amazon EC2.
The platform enables deployment, configuration and management of security policies for customers of web hosts. Dome9 says its security solution is a value-add for hosting providers to offer customers.
“Cloud technology has seen extraordinary growth within the hosting industry. With the Dome9 platform, cloud hosting providers can finally offer a scalable service that enables top of the line security for their customers,” Dome9 co-founder and CEO Zohar Alon said in a statement. “The fact that most hosted cloud servers are protected by just a username and password is alarming. Cloud providers simply can’t scale yesterday’s hardware-based firewalls to meet cloud demand and pricing trends. Our software-based solution brings a new dimension to server security and allows cloud administrators, providers, and users to take charge of their security, anytime, anywhere.”
Dome9 uses the operating system firewall or virtualization layer firewall to create frontline defense for cloud servers, according to the company. Using this system, cloud access can be granted from anywhere and changes are deployed instantly.
Dome9 works with virtual machines in private or pulic clouds and dedicated servers, supporting both Linux and Windows.
Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, the company says its solution is already installed and running on various cloud servers, including Amazon EC2, Rackspace Cloud, GoGrid and Servint.
Dome9 has also released the beta of its Dome9 Connect, an API-based integration module for cloud providers offering security control API and is currently being used to manage Amazon’s web services EC2 and VPC security groups.
Dome9 has received Series A funding from Opus Capital, though the company did not release the amount of the funding.
“Dome9’s unique technology and security approach provides customers large and small, as well as service providers, a comprehensive security service that dramatically increases the security of cloud infrastructure, at a fraction of the cost and complexity of yesterday’s security solutions,” Dan Avida, general partner at Opus Capital Ventures said in a statement. “Cutting edge technology paired with a highly experienced team with a strong background in proving MSPs with firewall solutions makes Dome9 the clear choice for server security.”
Also on Wednesday, StillSecure released its cloud security platform, a suite of managed services for private and public clouds.
