(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Security as a service cloud provider Alert Logic announced on Wednesday that it has completed the acquisition of web application security solutions developer Armorlogic.

Alert Logic says with this acquisition it will combine the blocking capabilities of Armorlogic Profense WAF with its security-as-a-service model to increase the effectiveness and decrease the cost of deploying WAF solutions.

Alert Logic partners and customers will benefit from the addition of Armorlogic’s web application security offerings as web application attacks are among the most common threats facing infrastructure in hosted and cloud environments. This type of acquisition allows service providers to expand their offerings and offer new technologies without having to do the development in house. With this acquisition, Alert Logic has expanded its security suite to include the Profense WAF to address security and compliance needs. Its partners, including web hosting providers, will be able to protect web applications against SQL injection, cross site scripting and other threats, as well as comply with PCI DSS 6.6.

According to its website, Alert Logic will improve upon Armorlogic’s Profense WAF as typical WAF have limited out-of-the-box attack detection ability.

While the software-only version is available for a monthly fee now, Alert Logic says it will introduce the first SaaS WAF in a limited release by April 2012, and it will be generally available at some point following the limited release. It is unclear how the SaaS model will be priced for partners.

“Armorlogic has a reputation among its customers and partners for delivering world-class protection for Web applications while being easy to use,” Alert Logic CEO Gray Hall said in a statement. “As is often the case for emerging technology companies, great products meeting real customer needs are unable to achieve broad market penetration. Alert Logic’s ability to transform Armorlogic’s product into a fully managed SaaS offering, coupled with our outstanding partner network including the leading hosting and cloud service providers in the world, gives us the ability to bring a market-leading WAF solution to the market segment that needs it most.”

Recent incidents have proved that cloud servers are not safe at all and hackers are sneaking into it at their will. So, companies should try more seriously in providing security solutions.
