(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Internet Villages International (http://ivint.co.uk) announced this week that it has secured almost $1 billion in financing to build its 3 million square foot “data center village” in Annandale in South West Scotland.
The company also said it will partner with power and cooling solutions provider APC by Schneider to “deliver ecologically designed, modular, scalable, data centers for sustainable operation.”
Through the partnership, APC by Schneider will provide the technology and infrastructure for multiple data centers on an initial 125-acre phase of the development.
The $1.6 billion data center campus, ALBA1, will eventually include more than 3 million square feet of data center space.
The company says it will be the “largest energy efficient and sustainable data farm.”
IVI did not disclose the name of the investor who has pledged to provide $979 million to finance the project.
The data center will be built near renewable energy sources.
IVI announced in January that it had signed a deal with Atlantic Resources to share energy generated by a tidal power generation project in the Pentland Firth.
The initiative could potentially turn Scotland into a hub for sustainable data centers.
The ALBA1 data farm will offer an abundance of low-cost land and water, four 100 MW diverse power feeds, 100 percent renewable energy and water, multiple, pan-European and world-wide data connectivity, design and build services that offer maximum energy efficiency, high secuity facilities, and local and national government support.
