“AutoZone violated SCO’s UNIX copyrights by running versions of the Linux operating system that contain code, structure, sequence and/or organization from SCO’s proprietary UNIX System V code in violation of SCO’s copyrights,” the company said in a release.

Today’s news comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that did not reveal the identity of the defendant. SCO’s lawsuit against Autozone is the first to be brought against an individual Linux end user. For several months, SCO has stated its intentions to take legal action against individual end users of Linux.

SCO also said today that is will file a lawsuit against DaimlerChrysler for “alleged violations of its UNIX software agreement with SCO.” According to SCO, DaimlerChrysler refused to provide certification proving that it was in compliance with provisions of its UNIX software agreement, prompting the lawsuit. In January, SCO sent letters to 6,000 UNIX licensees, asking them to certify compliance with all UNIX source code agreements.
